We have company coming in to town on Thursday. Marty's mom, aunt and uncle will be here until the 12th. Not a problem, but I don't know what they are going to sleep on.
Marty's uncle has a bad back and knees so our standard triple high air mattress won't work. We decided that the best thing to do is go to Rent a Center and rent one for the time we need it. I called on Saturday and got the price. I was even ok with having to pay for more time than I need because they have a minimum rental time.
I went in today to pay them and they asked me to fill out an application. No problem, I said as I sat down to answer their questions.
They want to know the normal things like names, address and phone numbers.
But why do they need to know my social security numbers, salary, what time we are at work, our landlord's name, address and phone #, who our car is financed with, Marty's monthly take home, when his next pay date is...
I said "I don't need to fill all of this out for a short term lease, do I?"
"Yes, because we don't run a credit check."
Why would they need to run a credit check to rent me something for 10 days?? Why would they need my social security numbers if they aren't going to run a credit check? Why do they need to know the dates that Marty gets paid if I am paying for it all upfront? Why do they need to know who my car is financed through if I am not using my car as collateral for something?
As if that weren't bad enough, the price has suddenly jumped since Saturday.
Am I being paranoid by not wanting to give them all of this information?

I hate giving my social security # for anything. However it seems like most places are bent on having it. With rental places, it is to make sure you bring their stuff back--they zap you if you don't by turning you into a collection agency (if you are lucky) or the police...
Keep up the good work with the food plan. I'll be going on South Beach again soon, even though it makes me want to hijack the Twinkie truck...
